Italian Version of Child Epilepsy Quality of Life Questionnaire Validated

Summary
A study was conducted to evaluate the Italian version of the Child Epilepsy Quality of Life Questionnaire (CHEQOL-25), which measures how children with epilepsy and their parents view the children's quality of life. The research took place at a single center in Italy and involved 252 children with epilepsy and their parents. The study included translating the questionnaire into Italian and ensuring it was easy to understand and relevant for families.
The findings showed that the Italian CHEQOL-25 is reliable and valid, meaning it accurately measures what it is supposed to measure. The results indicated that children who participated in playful activities reported a better quality of life, especially in social interactions and feeling normal. Interestingly, children who did not receive school support also reported higher scores, suggesting they faced fewer challenges related to their condition. There was a good level of agreement between what children reported about their quality of life and what their parents reported.
This study is important because it confirms that the CHEQOL-25 can effectively assess the quality of life for children with epilepsy in Italy, similar to its original version. Understanding the quality of life for these children can help families and healthcare providers better support their needs. However, the study was limited to one center and may not represent all children with epilepsy in Italy, so further research in different settings would be beneficial.
