Summary

This study looked at how well children with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) are followed up by different medical specialists in a hospital in Paris. TSC is a rare condition that can cause growths in various organs and often leads to epilepsy. Researchers collected information from 81 patients aged 3 to 18 years old over a three-year period to see how often they received care and how much it cost.

The key findings showed that, on average, each patient had about 9.4 days of follow-up care and attended 1.6 day hospital stays during the study. The average cost for each patient’s consultations and hospital stays was around €1344 per year. While some aspects of care met national guidelines, there were challenges in getting patients to see all the necessary specialists regularly.

This study is important because it highlights the need for better follow-up care for children with TSC, especially since the costs can be high and the condition can lead to serious health issues. However, the study has limits, such as being based on data from just one hospital and not including all possible factors that might affect care. Improving how care is organized could help make it easier for families to get the support they need without excessive travel or costs.
