This study looked at how COVID-19 affects children with epilepsy over time. Researchers compared 38 kids who had COVID-19 to 92 kids with epilepsy who did not have the virus. They found that six months after infection, the kids who had COVID-19 experienced more seizures and had higher rates of mental health issues like anxiety and depression, as well as other neurological problems. By twelve months, while the number of seizures had stabilized, many of these kids still struggled with cognitive issues, sleep problems, and feelings of sadness.
